SYDNEY, June 25 (World Daily Times) — Leah Stewart, the shark-attack survivor who spent 10 days in an induced coma, woke briefly in a Sydney ICU this week and told her mother and partner Fernando, “I love you,” according to an update from her brother, Joshua Stewart.

Joshua Stewart said doctors removed her breathing tube and reduced her sedation, allowing her to wake for a short time after the June 13 attack at Coogee Beach. He said Leah Stewart had already undergone multiple surgeries, including surgery to remove her arm and treat other serious injuries.

In a Thursday update, Joshua Stewart said Leah Stewart is now awake, no longer in critical condition and able to communicate with family and medical staff. ABC News reported, based on his update, that she has also been reunited with her young daughter, August, for the first time since the attack.

Joshua Stewart said it was the first night Leah and August had ever spent apart.
