CAIRO, June 24 (World Daily Times) — Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said on May 31 that archaeologists uncovered a burial cache beneath a structure containing human remains at the Panhesy tomb site in Matariya, inside the Heliopolis necropolis.

The ministry said the cache included five pairs of yellow-colored metal earrings that archaeologists believe may be made of gold, along with carved scarabs, cosmetic containers and a copper mirror. Officials also released images showing two alabaster kohl containers with traces of ancient eye makeup, a third kohl container made of black obsidian and four stones, two of which are believed to be agate.

The ministry described the find as the “first nearly complete funerary assemblage ever discovered in the area.” Fox News, which reported the announcement, described Heliopolis as the ancient Egyptian city linked in Genesis to Joseph.

Officials said the discovery built on earlier finds at the site during the same excavation season, including mudbrick and limestone funerary structures and two coffins found in fragmented condition.
