MIAMI, July 23 (Our Florida Times) — Burger King is changing how it handles its signature sandwich and customer complaints.
The Miami-based chain said it is adding two service changes: a restaurant manager role called the Your Way Champion and a Whopper Guarantee that gives customers a way to get a Whopper remade if it does not meet expectations.
What is the Your Way Champion?
Burger King describes the Your Way Champion as a reimagined restaurant manager role meant to put the guest experience first. The company says the role includes a dedicated uniform and a customer-facing job focused on customization and satisfaction.
Burger King has not said whether every restaurant will have a Your Way Champion, or whether the role changes pay, staffing levels or franchise costs.
How does the Whopper Guarantee work?
Under the Whopper Guarantee, Burger King says a Whopper that is not right can be remade on the spot. The guest also gets a free next Whopper, which can be redeemed with a QR code.
The company has not explained every detail of the QR-code process, including any time limit or whether the guarantee applies to every Whopper variation.
Why is Burger King doing this now?
Burger King said the changes came after it invited customers to share feedback earlier in the year by phone and text. In its announcement, the company said it received thousands of calls and text messages.
Tom Curtis, president of Burger King US and Canada, said the company had been listening to guests. In interviews, he said customers like the Whopper but sometimes feel it is squished or not served with the bun they want.
On an earnings call, Restaurant Brands International CEO Joshua Kobza said the updated Whopper was getting positive feedback and was helping drive the strongest average unit volumes for the sandwich in more than three years.
How does this fit with Burger King’s Whopper updates?
The service changes follow Burger King’s earlier update to the Whopper itself. In a Feb. 26 company post from Miami, Burger King said it had changed the sandwich for the first time in almost 10 years, adding a glazed bun, creamier mayonnaise and clamshell-style packaging.
Burger King said that updated Whopper rolled out at more than 7,000 locations nationwide. The company also said the sandwich still has more than a quarter-pound of 100% flame-grilled beef.
What does this mean for Florida?
The announcement came from Burger King’s Miami corporate base, which gives the story a Florida connection even though the changes are chainwide. The company has not identified any Florida restaurant that will be a test site, and it has not said whether the new service rules will look the same in every location.
For customers, the main takeaway is simple: Burger King is trying to make the Whopper experience more consistent, and it is backing that effort with a new manager role and a guarantee for orders that miss the mark.
