BAHRAIN, June 27 (World Daily Times) — Bahrain said Iran launched drones into its territory on Saturday, prompting swift condemnation from the Gulf Cooperation Council and several neighboring governments that called the attack a threat to regional security.
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry described the strike as a “flagrant threat” to the kingdom’s security and said the Iranian regime was responsible for undermining peace efforts. The ministry also said the attack violated commitments tied to a memorandum of understanding it said was signed June 17.
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi condemned the attack as “treacherous” and said it would undercut efforts to preserve peace. Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry called the strikes “a dangerous undermining of endeavors for peace and stability,” while Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates also issued statements condemning the attack on Bahrain’s sovereignty.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said on state-run television that it had targeted several locations it described as belonging to “the U.S. terrorist army in the region,” according to reporting cited by Fox News. Bahrain’s statements did not include a detailed public assessment of damage in the material reviewed for this report.
The new condemnations came after Gulf foreign ministers meeting in Bahrain had already denounced Iranian attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, saying Iran was fully accountable.
