NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville said Democrats should consider a formal schism and said he could not be in the same party with Darializa Avila Chevalier, a candidate identified in the reporting as backed by Zohran Mamdani, after New York primary wins by candidates on the party’s left.

On the Politicon podcast, the veteran Democratic strategist said, “I actually do think it’s time for Democrats to talk the ‘s’ word. Schism. I really do.” He added, “I’m done” and said he was not in that party.

Carville also said he did not want to be in a party “that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist,” and suggested people who disagree with Democrats should “start your own movement” or “form your own party.”

He singled out Avila Chevalier, saying, “Lady, I ain’t in the same party as you,” and objected to views he attributed to her on interracial relationships. Carville also said such candidates had “no place” at his table.

In an earlier New York Times op-ed, Carville warned that the Democratic Party was “steamrolling toward a civilized civil war” and said the fight should wait until after the 2026 midterm elections.
