CALHOUN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, June 20 (Infinite Headlines) — Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies have arrested six people after a June 6 brawl at the 601 Sand Bar on the Congaree River in South Carolina, where authorities said more than 20 people were involved and at least three were hurt.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said the fight broke out during the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run. The office identified the suspects as Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell and Taylor Knudson.

The sheriff’s office said the six face various assault and breach-of-peace charges. It did not release a public breakdown showing which charge applied to each person.

Sheriff Thomas Summers said alcohol was a factor, and deputies found numerous cases of underage drinking. Video released by the sheriff’s office showed multiple fights and people crowding around the scene in shallow water.

“The injuries were severe,” Summers said. “This kind of behavior will not be tolerated,” he said.

Authorities said the injuries ranged from swollen eyes to head injuries. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active and that more arrests are expected as detectives continue reviewing video and public submissions. Officials have not publicly said what sparked the violence.
