WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital Sunday morning, his office said, offering no reason for the hospitalization but saying the Kentucky Republican was receiving “excellent care.”

McConnell spokesperson David Popp said on June 16 that the 84-year-old senator was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

Popp did not identify the hospital or provide details about McConnell’s condition, diagnosis or expected release date.

McConnell was hospitalized earlier this year after what his office described as “flu-like symptoms.” Popp said the senator checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing those symptoms over the prior weekend.

He was discharged on Feb. 10, and Popp said afterward that McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
