NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies said Paul Pelosi, 86, could face misdemeanor hit-and-run charges after they say he struck a legally parked car and drove away in Yountville, California, on July 3.

Deputies responded to the 6700 block of Yount Street around 2:30 p.m., according to a sheriff’s office statement. After tracking Pelosi down, the statement said he admitted hitting something but said he was not aware of what he had struck.

A preliminary alcohol screening test returned a 0.00 reading, and deputies said DUI was ruled out. They did not arrest Pelosi, saying that is common for the offense under California Penal Code section 853.6, and referred the case to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review; a California DMV re-evaluation referral was also said to be forthcoming.

The Napa County district attorney’s office separately said in 2022 that it filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi after a May 28, 2022 crash in the county. The office said at the time that a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content and that he was to be arraigned in Napa County Superior Court on Aug. 3, 2022.
